ACTIVITIES
Since 1995, the Alliance Française of Greater Orlando (AFGO) has held its picnics on the second Sunday of each month. However, this month we cannot maintain this tradition because it conflicts with Easter Sunday. Therefore, we are advancing the date of our next picnic/pétanque to Sunday, April 2nd. As usual, it will be held at Mead Botanical Garden, with a potluck lunch starting at 12:30 pm, followed by pétanque ball games.
As mentioned in our previous month’s newsletter, our language school is very active. It offers French courses to both adults and children (age 3 to 16), either online or in-presence in our office. On top of these standard courses, AFGO also offers special programs either for adults or kids.
Our summer camp was announced recently. It will be held from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, in our office, Monday Through Friday, during 4 weeks in June and 2 weeks in July.
On March 20, a new online class for adults was launched. At least two additional programs for children will be started in April or May.
For additional data on our classes or special programs, please consult Delphine, our School Administrator, at thecours2francais@gmail.com.
Part # 2 of “Discover France and its Culture” lectures dedicated to the Gironde region of France, animated by Muriel, continues during the whole month of April.
Finally, it is our pleasure to announce that our monthly movie night will take place on Saturday, April 22nd, in our office, with a potluck dinner starting at 6:30 pm, followed by the projection of a French movie subtitled in English.
NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS
It is our duty and privilege to inform you that AFGO donated some money to the “Friends of Notre-Dame”, an organization that contributes to the rebuilding of the famous Parisian cathedral partially destroyed by a fire in 2019.
The first stone of this cathedral was laid in 1163, i.e. 860 years ago.
The restoration of Our Lady includes five major tasks: reconstructing the vaults, building the framework of the iconic spire, restoring the stained glass, cleaning the cathedral’s paintings, working on the grand organ. Repairs remain on schedule with reopening for both worshipers and visitors planned for 2024.
