Bonjour à toutes et à tous,

We hope your year is off to a wonderful start! January was an exciting month for us at the Alliance Française, filled with new classes, events, and vibrant community moments.

Our Galette des Rois contest was a huge hit, with a sold-out event bringing together 100 participants. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this celebration of French culture and community! Your enthusiasm made it truly special. We also extend our apologies to those we had to turn away due to limited space. If you missed the Galette des Rois, don’t worry – February is here, and we have more exciting events and opportunities to connect, including our celebration of La Chandeleur (a crêpe celebration).

February is also the month of love! As we approach Valentine’s Day, what better way to celebrate than by embracing the romance and beauty of French culture? Whether it’s planning a special dinner, learning a few sweet phrases in French, or attending one of our events, we hope this month inspires you to add a little French charm to your Valentine’s celebrations.

Joyeuse Saint-Valentin to all!

Starting February 2025, the Alliance Française of Greater Orlando is thrilled to launch a new series of Cultural Presentations to inspire and connect our community through fascinating stories and projects.

Once a month, on a Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, we will welcome French speakers and Francophiles living in Florida to share their unique projects, books, or experiences with our members.

We are proud to kick off this series on Friday, February 28th, with a special presentation on the Florida-France Soldier Stories project. This initiative honors the Florida soldiers buried in American Battle Monuments Commission cemeteries in France by sharing their stories and commemorating their sacrifices during World War II. The project also educates participating students on the history of France and Florida during the war, the lives of individual servicemen, and historical research methods.

As we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, we are honored to welcome Dr. D. Lyons, Associate Professor in the UCF History Department and head of this project, along with her team of dedicated students, to share their research and insights.

Details:

  • Date: Friday, February 28th, 2025
  • Time: 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
  • Duration: One Friday evening per month
  • Location: Alliance Française of Greater Orlando

Join us for this unique opportunity to celebrate and explore French and Floridian history through captivating stories and meaningful exchanges!

The Alliance Française was honored to be invited to the vernissage of two exceptional new exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art. It was a memorable evening that allowed us to support the museum and engage with the art community.

The opening reception showcased two remarkable exhibitions that captivated all who attended:

  • Relationships: A Love for Collecting – This exhibition highlights the generous gifts from the Cottrell Lovett collection, offering a beautiful exploration of the art of connection and passion.
  • Édouard Prulhière: The Inverted Sound of Painting – This exhibit provides an in-depth look at a transformative period in the career of French-American artist Édouard Prulhière, specifically from 1995 to 2005. His work during this decade reflects a departure from traditional practices and an innovative reimagining of his artistic vision.

We had the unique opportunity to meet Édouard Prulhière himself, which made the evening even more special. His insights into his creative process and the evolution of his work added a deeper layer to the experience.

Both exhibitions are now open to the public and provide an incredible opportunity to experience art that challenges the conventional and invites deeper reflection:

We encourage visitors to explore these exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art and immerse themselves in the beauty and complexity of contemporary art.
