August Movie Night – « Yves Saint Laurent »

In August, our movie night will take place at 6pm at our AFGO office on Saturday, August 24th. The address of our office is: 1516 E. Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL 32803. The parking lot and entrance are located at the back of the building.

First, we will have a potluck dinner, followed by the screening of a French movie subtitled in English. At the end of the movie, we will offer the possibility to have a short discussion on the projected movie.

This month, we will be featuring the movie “Yves Saint Laurent”, a 2014 biographical drama based on the life of the French designer. This movie was directed by Jalil Lespert and co-written with Jacques Fieschi, Jérémie Guez, and Marie-Pierre Huster. “Yves Saint Laurent” is starring Pierre Niney, Guillaume Gallienne, Charlotte Le Bon, Laura Smet, Marie de Villepin, Xavier Lafitte, and Nikolai Kinski.

The film opened the Panorama Special section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival at the renovated Zoo Palast, with director, cast, and Pierre Bergé in attendance. The film received seven nominations at the 40th César Awards, winning Best Actor for Pierre Niney.

After Christian Dior’s death in 1957, a 21-year-old and talented artist named Yves Saint Laurent (Pierre Niney) was chosen as head designer of the Haute Couture fashion house. In 1960, Saint Laurent was drafted into the French army and fired from the house of Dior. Soon after, he established his own fashion house with the assistance of his partner Pierre Bergé (Guillaume Gallienne). This partnership led to the establishment of an iconic fashion empire.
