Rencontre Littéraire: Camille’s Lakou / Moun Lakou
Presented by Marie Léticée with Special guest: Dr. Kevin Meehan,
Akosua Fadhili AfriKa, also known as Dr. Marie Léticée, is an author and researcher specializing in Francophone literatures and cultures, with a particular focus on Caribbean postcolonial dynamics. Originally from Guadeloupe, her work explores questions of identity, memory, transmission, and power relations inherited from colonial history through close attention to the body, language, and social structures.
Her research examines forms of alienation, resistance, and identity negotiation in Caribbean societies, bringing together literary analysis, critical reflection, and lived experience. Both rigorous and deeply engaged, her approach listens carefully to the silences of history as well as to marginalized voices.
With Camille´s LAKOU, she presents a work at the crossroads of literature, memory, and the Caribbean imagination. The lakou—a space of life, lineage, and spirituality—becomes a symbolic place for reflecting on belonging, heritage, and the reconstruction of self. This creative work continues her dialogue between literary creation and critical inquiry, faithful to her commitment to a decolonial rereading of Caribbean experiences.
Her earlier publications include Education, Assimilation and Identity: The Literary Journey of the French Caribbean (2009), as well as the novels Moun Lakou (2016) and Du Haut de l’Autre Bord (2020), which further explore belonging, memory, and cultural heritage through fiction.
Special guest: Dr. Kevin Meehan, Professor of Anglophone Caribbean Literature in the Department of English at UCF and co-translator of the novel, will be present to answer questions and contribute to the discussion.
After the presentation, stay for a friendly gathering, continue the conversation with the author, and enjoy the book signing.
