Our movie night in June had to be canceled because our premises served as a polling station for the French early legislative elections on June 29th. We will watch the movie scheduled in June.
In July, our movie night will take place at the AFGO office on Saturday, July 27th.
Starting this month, our movie nights will now start at 6pm instead of 6:30 pm.
First, we will have a potluck dinner, followed by the screening of a French movie subtitled in English. At the end of the movie, we will offer the possibility to have a short discussion on the projected movie.
This month, we will be featuring the movie “Le père de mes enfants” (“The Father of my Children”), a 2009 drama film directed by Mia Hansen-Løve. This movie won the Jury Special Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It is based in part on the life of the late Humbert Balsan.
Grégoire Canvel (Louis-Do de Lencquesaing) is torn between the demands of his family and his obsession with his career. He runs an independent film company and barely has time to see his frustrated wife, Sylvia (Chiara Caselli), or his three daughters during the week. Their weekends are spent trying to enjoy time together even as Grégoire compulsively checks in with his partners. After a tragic incident, Sylvia takes over the company and realizes the extent of her husband’s secrets.
