New Monthly Cultural Talks – Florida France Soldier Stories Project

Starting February 2025, the Alliance Française of Greater Orlando is excited to introduce a new series of Monthly Cultural Talks designed to inspire and connect our community through engaging stories and insightful projects.

Once a month, on a Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, we will welcome French speakers and Francophiles living in Florida to share their unique projects, books, or experiences with our members. These gatherings will provide a space for cultural exchange and meaningful discussions about French and Francophone culture, history, and contributions.

  • When: Friday, February 28th from 6 PM to 7 PM
  • Where: Alliance Française of Greater Orlando
  • Fees: Free for AFGO members / $5 for non-members

We are thrilled to kick off our new cycle of conferences with an exceptional presentation: Florida France Soldier Stories (FFSS).

Led by Dr. Amelia Lyons, Associate Professor at UCF specializing in French history, a dedicated group of students will unveil their research on Floridian soldiers who fought to liberate Europe during WWII and remain buried in France today.

This unique project bridges local history in Florida and France, offering a powerful perspective on war, memory, and sacrifice. Through the study of primary documents—census records, draft cards, and personal archives—UCF students connect with these soldiers, ensuring their stories are preserved and honored.

  • Learn how history is reconstructed through archival research.
  • Discover a meaningful way to engage with the past.
  • Witness the impact of this project in education and remembrance.

This conference is more than a history lesson—it’s a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Don’t miss this opportunity to honor their legacy and deepen your understanding of WWII through a Florida-France connection.

Spread the word and join us for this event!

Don’t hesitate to pre-register, so we can welcome you properly!
