Welcome to July!

This month is all about celebration, from the 4th of July to Bastille Day on the 14th, we hope you enjoy these moments of joy, reflection, and community.

June was a wonderful month at AFGO, filled with laughter, learning, and creativity during our summer camps. Some weeks were completely full, and while we apologize for any inconvenience, we’re truly grateful to all the families who placed their trust in us. There are just a few spots left for our final week of camp in late July, don’t miss out!

We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events this month.

Let’s make the most of this vibrant summer together!

A Successful Student Exchange Between Dr. Phillips High School and Association Strasbourg Amitiés USA

We are happy to share the wonderful success of the recent cultural and linguistic exchange between students from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando and the Association Strasbourg Amitiés USA.

Over two enriching weeks in Alsace, 23 students from Florida had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in French life, sharing daily experiences with their French correspondents. They explored the rich historical heritage of Strasbourg and built lasting friendships through genuine cultural exchange. The adventure concluded with three magical days in Paris, wandering its iconic streets and savoring unforgettable moments.

This exchange represents more than travel, it is a bridge of friendship, discovery, and mutual respect between our communities.

Thank you to all the people behind this incredible organization and the Strasbourg Amitiés USA Association for their dedication and hard work in making this possible. Special gratitude goes to Marie Oury, our Vice President, for her meaningful involvement and support throughout this exchange.

Thank you to all the students, teachers, host families, and organizers whose enthusiasm and commitment turned this experience into an unforgettable journey.

We look forward to many more exchanges that continue to bring our communities closer together!

Our June Summer Camps were a vibrant journey of discovery, creativity, and imagination!

From June 2–6, young scientists embarked on hands-on experiments during Little Einstein, exploring the wonders of the world around them.

The following week, June 9–13, Les p’tits artistes brought a colorful and creative atmosphere, where children expressed themselves through painting, sculpting, and hands-on art activities while discovering iconic French artists.

Then, from June 23–27, campers were enchanted by Contes et légendes magiques, diving into magical tales and legends brought to life with shadow theater.

Each week offered a unique, immersive experience, all in French, making summer learning fun and unforgettable!

Each year on July 14, France celebrates Bastille Day (la Fête nationale), commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, a powerful symbol of the French Revolution and the people’s fight for liberty, equality, and fraternity. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a new era in French history, laying the foundation for the democratic values that continue to shape France today.

Much like the 4th of July in the United States, Bastille Day is a time of national pride, remembrance, and unity. While Americans celebrate independence from colonial rule, the French mark the beginning of a revolution that sought to redefine freedom, social justice, and citizenship. Both holidays highlight the power of the people to shape their nation’s destiny and are celebrated with parades, fireworks, music, and festive gatherings that reflect their respective cultures.

Whether through French music, film, cuisine, or conversation, Bastille Day is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the history and spirit of France and to reflect on the shared values of freedom and democracy that unite people across cultures.
