This month, we offer a French film named “La veuve Couderc”, (“The widow Couderc”), subtitled in English.
- Director: Pierre Garnier-Deferre
- Main actors: Alain Delon, Simone Signoret
In 1934, in a little village on a canal in Burgundy, an escaped convict (Allain Delon) helps an older woman (Simone Signoret) carry a heavy load while getting off the bus; she offers him work and a room, and soon they are in a relationship.
She is the widow Couderc who runs a farm single-handedly while across the canal her sister-in-law and her husband try to evict her and gain the property.
They have a sixteen year-old daughter Felicia (Ottavia Picolo) who starts a relationship with Jean and complicates the family dynamics even more.
